Today we clean, and start cooking. Scott has to prepare the turkey, and make the soup. I need to finish the cleaning, do the laundry, and make the pumpkin custard. Yet, here I am procrastinating...

We've been preparing for Thanksgiving this week. I love Thanksgiving. For us it's all about the food. It's a reason to make a huge meal. The menu - Scott's famous turkey, bacon and brussel sprouts, butternut squash soup, sweet potato mash, acorn squash with maple syrup, and some kind of apple dessert.
Friday, we have friends from NYC staying with us. I can't wait. Abby and Vera kind of know someone is coming, but they aren't positive who. It's going to be a busy holiday!
Abby and I have been battling her eczema. Her immune system keeps attacking the skin on her inner elbow. The skin looks scarred already. I have a few more ideas to try before I go to the doctor for a steroid. For now, I'm keeping it covered and oiled. I swear she's allergic to MD. The only time she stayed eczema free was when we lived in the apartment on 63rd street in Brooklyn. Abby's eczema is such a viscous cycle. She eats dairy, eczema flairs, something in the environment aggravates it, and on it goes.
I wanted to get the upstairs cleaned today before we go to our Tuesday playgroup...

I have been working hard to get the house ready for Thanksgiving. Lots of cleaning, organizing, and collecting. I have a decent sized cloth napkin collection, place mats, and dishes. It's going to be a paper free Thanksgiving. Oh, how I love Thanksgiving. Did I mention we're hosting this year? Scott's turkey is delicious. I can't wait.
Penny has started to talk more. She's definitely on the later side for talking. Her favorite words are cheese, Abby, mommy, daddy, water, peepee, mine, that, here, and read. (Really, what more do you need to know?) Notice Vera's name isn't on the list. Penny is still trying to figure Vera's name out. I've heard her say it on occasion, but it's more of a rear-wa sound.
Another Penny thing. She started playing with figures. I love figurines of all types. We have a bin of random animals, Pokemon creatures, humans, etc that the girls dig through nearly daily. Penny enjoys lining them up, or placing them in the doll house.
Vera is still awake at 10:45. I can't sleep until everyone else is asleep.

I downgraded my lovely smart phone for a basic talk and text phone. Scott and I gave up our phones for a number of reasons. Scott now has a company phone. I thought my days of blogging late at night in bed were over. Then tonight, after the kids had gone to bed, Scott gave me a brand spanking new Nexus 7. I love it. Perfect compact size. I was mourning the loss of my Google calendar, access to my email, and voice services. (You can't use Google voice on a Virgin phone, people.)
I don't post photos on my blog anymore. I haven't in months. Maybe over a year now? Ya gotta be a Facebook friend to see photos. But, I mention this, because I waiver all the time about posting photos even to Facebook. Without access to instagram, and no camera on a phone, I've slowed down sharing. It's for the best, I think.
Quick home school update. I'm loving Saxon math 54. Getting through math 1 - 3 was so worth it. "New" concepts aren't that hard for Abby. I feel like were breezing through. Vera is trudging through handwriting. She's going to need a ton of practice, and more pincer type exercises.
