The End is Near

I started this blog eight years ago as a kind of weird journal for me to ramble about our happenings in Brooklyn. This weekend, I will be deleting this blog.  I found a company that converts the RSS feed into PDF format for archiving.  I'm stopping for a number of personal reasons, the biggest being censorship.  Last week, I started a handwritten journal and I find writing in a soft, leather-bound notebook to be more freeing and enjoyable.  Instagram is a better format for sharing more non-private events for now.

Thanks for eight years.

Abby started her physics lab today.  We discovered gravity and mass using a potato drop that we built.  All the girls had fun dropping potatoes on toothpicks.  I still need to get denatured alcohol so we can finish the chemistry lab.  I'm having such a hard time getting it! This weekend, I'm making the effort to find a cup.

Abby is close to finishing Math 4/5.  I hope to be finished with it before the holidays.  I want to start Math 5/6 after the holidays.  She's also finished First Language Lessons 3, and we're now totally in all fourth/fifth grade work. I need to work on making sure Vera gets her work done everyday.  Some days that's easier than other days.  Math 1 always requires extra things that I need to make sure to have on hand, and most times I am horrible at pre-planning, and Scott forgets or doesn't have the time to pick the stuff up.  Like we needed peanuts in their shells, and for some reason Whole Foods didn't have peanuts, and the CVS next door didn't either.  So I'm stuck trying to do this lesson with pistachios.  At least pistachios have two parts to their shells.

Penny's last two year molar finally poked through!  Joy!

I took a facebook break this week. I needed some separation. It doesn't consume my time, but it's more of a mental break to save my sanity. Alone time.

Greenberries is hosting a babywearing certification course through The Center for Babywearing Studies.  If anyone is interested in becoming a certified babywearing educator, please contact me ASAP.  This is a wonderful opportunity to deepen your knowledge of babywearing to support parents and caregivers, and this course will offer continuing education credits through Lamaze and DONA. We still have a few spots open, and a special sign up sale.

September 13, 2013

The girls and I had a super busy weekend. Scott had to work all weekend, and so Saturday I took the girls to work with me. Right after work, we ate dinner, then drove to Ocean City to meet my mother. I drove both ways right at Penny's bedtime to avoid screaming. It kinda worked going there. Penny woke up at the Bay Bridge. On the way home, she slept the whole way and the rest of the night. The girls had a really fun time. Ocean City is best during the off-season. I wish we were closer to an actual beach. The sand and water make the kids so satisfyingly tired.

Scott started his new position here in Baltimore. He's working so hard right now. Twelve hour days, and then working at home after dinner, but his commute is 15 minutes. 15 minutes! It went from between an hour and a half to three hours to 15 minutes. It's lovely.

I skipped a month!

Abby's 9th birthday was on the first. She's grown so much this summer. Her little kid-ness is disappearing quickly. Toys aren't holding her attention like crafts and books are. Perfecting super fast turns on her bike and mastering all monkey bars are top priority. We got Abby's ears pierced. We took her to a piercer who did them fast and nearly painless. Getting her ears pierced felt like a rite of passage for her. Abby said she felt a bit more grown up afterwards.

Happy Birthday, my Abby.
